Aurora Aksnes earliest musical memory is the discovery of the piano she had in her attic and becoming fascinated by the sound it could produce. Her parents May-Britt and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to pursue music not as a profession or a hobby, but as a way to develop. Thus, she began writing her own songs. She has cited renowned songwriters Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in her influences, along with an affinity for Bjork's style. The singer decided to perform her music in public when her mom suggested they could help people not be famous with her music, but rather to help those around them see their importance and the ways they impact the world. She started playing piano when she was six years old and began to write music at the age of nine. It wasn't until her 14th birthday that she revealed her plans to her parents. Aurora did not have a set goal. She says she just likes writing songs. To her, music is the best method to communicate anything.
